Author has written 22 stories for Lord of the Rings, Law and Order: SVU, and CSI.
Mae govannen, mellon nin. ("Well met, my friends." to those that don't speak Elvish.)
So, who am I? Well, I began my adult life (i.e. -- I finished grad school and was told told by my parents I needed to start earning a living) as an idealistic city planner hopeful of making the world a better place to live -- pauses to sigh dramatically-- and ended up a disillusioned bureaucrat. That was longer ago that I'll admit here... sadly, the politicians, developers, lawyers, NIMBY’s, LULU’s, IGMSY’s, and the other bureaucrats appear to be winning! I’ve decided to move to Middle-earth to let Elrond pamper and sooth my fractured fëa! At least that’s the fantasy I cling to when trying to survive another endless meeting regarding… “What were we meeting about again?? Junk cars and overgrown lawns? And this is why I became a planner??” Sighs and goes back to writing/reading fanfiction and mentally undressing elves and or the 10th Doctor or anything David Tennant plays... SIGH!! Did I mention I also have a thing about Severus Snape and his alter ego Alan Rickman? Yes, yes, much better than thinking about junk cars!!
My username is Sorsha, the Americanized form of the Gaelic name for ‘brightness”. Pretentious? Yes, yes it is, but, as my parents chose to name me after an arid plain, I feel I should be allowed a little harmless self-delusion in choosing another.
I’m an avid reader with a passion for mysteries, fantasy, sci-fi, histories, biographies, and -- looks around to see whose listening -- Jane Austen. I also love movies, music, travel (something I don't get to do often enough), cats and dogs, talking and more talking, cooking, but not cleaning, politics, teaching, ancient Egypt, and writing. I'm an avid photographer and I enjoy manipping pics to illustrate my stories. I like to play in our garden, but my allergies are making that harder and harder to enjoy.
Obviously, Professor Tolkien's works and the Law & Order franchise... the original series and SVU have been favorites of mine for years. I fell in love with Dr Who when I was a kid, especially the 4th Doctor. I re-fell in love with show when I saw David Tennant's 10th Doctor, though 9 & 11 were great too. Still haven't had a chance to watch 12th Doctor... something I hope to do soon.
David Tennant is my latest obsession. I loved Broadchurch (Gracepoint was ok but not as good as the original), Decoy Bride, Single Father... My have to try my had at an Alec Hardy fic or a 10th Doctor...
I still think Homicide: Life on the Streets is one of the best shows ever on TV... and the source of my Munchkin obsession.
I used to love CSI... especially the Jim Brass character, but they ruined the show several years ago IMO and I stopped watching. When it first came on, I was put off by the gore factor, but I've learned when to close my eyes! OK, I'm a wuss... deal with it! The funny thing is I've also become a fan of those forensics shows... how escapes me, but the looks I'm getting from those around me when I turn them on is priceless! I miss Warrick and Gil. I want to finish my CSI fics, but... I hate the show now.
Elrond is my favorite elf... err, half-elf, but I wouldn't kick Glorfindel, Erestor, or Gil-Galad out of the bed should they show up!
I came to the world of Harry Potter thanks to Alan Rickman... I think I've seen everything he's been in at least twice! Really! I saw the first HP movie and got hooked. By the end of the summer, I had read the first four books and was waiting with baited breath for the next. I always believed in Sevvie... but did he have to die?? Sigh!
Total Geek Alert! I love Star Trek... the original series. TNG, and Deep Space Nine. When I was a child, I was in love with Mr. Spock, Mick Jagger, and Dustin Hoffman. My parents must have lost a lot of sleep worrying I'd end up married to someone with Spock's ears, Jagger's lips, and Hoffman's nose!! LOL... I showed them... I'm still single!!
Buffy... yep, loved Buffy. Spike where art thou! Simpsons... should I admit I've seen every episode? Probably not. Beyond what I've mentioned, I don't watch all that much TV.
Favorite movie? Can't say... depends on the day. My tastes seem to run all over the place... A Clockwork Orange to Bambi. Crimes and Misdemeanors to Serial Mom... The Lion in Winter to Rocky Horror Picture Show... The Philadelphia Story to Dogma... and a lot in between.
I hate most reality shows, avoid those screaming matches that pass for political debate whenever possible, and love a good comedy. I have a thing for British humor/sitcoms/mysteries and can quote Monty Python and Douglas Adams when requested. It may surprise you how seldom anybody requests... I love Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis... (I think I may have to take a crack at writing one about Robbie!), Agatha Christie, Cracker... Midsumer and Prime Suspect... I could go on and on...
I listen to jazz most of the time, but I love almost all types of music... except for Country. One of the biggest disappointment of my life is the fact that I can't sing to save my soul... a sentiment shared by all that have ever heard me try! I secretly suspect that was God's plan for keeping me on the straight and narrow... no nights spent in smoke-filled dives lounging against a piano in a form-fitting bit of glam belting out a torchy ditty and dreaming of the day I'm discovered... Diva suits me so well!
