Author has written 4 stories for Scarlet Pimpernel.
Here is my character's profile from Zoundsfern. wordpress. com:
Elizabeth Rhedyn Nechole Ffoulkes (Fern)
Born: July 4, 1776
Raised: United States of America. Moved in with her half-brother when left an orphan.
Bio: When Sir Andrew’s mother died, Sir Andrew, Sr., left his son with his parents to drown his grief fighting the Revolutionary War. He saw the gritty side of British colonization and switched sides. He met a pretty American girl of French extraction, married her, and had a daughter. When Fern’s mother died, she traveled across the Atlantic to find her brother who she had never met.
Looks: Very tall; long, brown, hair; darker complexion; fiery hazel eyes; boyish features (awfully convenient, Eh?)
Personality: A feisty rebel, she believes in liberte, egalite, fraternite, but not ou la mort. She is unromantic, but kind; proud, but not snobbish; with a little sense of humor thrown in to boot. She’s always in above her neck! (hence the name of this site. Since she moved to England 'Zounds, Fern!' is the most common thing she’s heard, generally in this context. “Zounds, Fern! What’d you do this time?”
Relatives: Sir Andrew is her half brother, the De Tournais are distant cousins (on her mother’s side,) and she eventually marries Lord Antony Dewhurst. (Yes, TheLadyBath and I are embroiled in a battle over that. :(
Why she joined the Ring: She started it. She had some friends who begged for a recommendation to get them into the League- but she knew it wasn’t going to happen, and started the League’s back-up band.
Now about the real me!
A Bibliophile and writer, I love historical fiction and biographies. I adore the Scarlet Pimpernel books, and have even started my own Fan Fiction and role play Website, Zounds, Fern! (zoundsfern . wordpress . com) I post scenarios to respond to once a month, and also some interesting historical tidbits and writing tools.
Favorite Book: A Tale of Two Cities. I love almost all revolutionary fiction (almost. Down, Scaramouche!)and this is the best of the lot. I'm not writing fanfic on it, as it is too beautiful to tamper with.
I am a Christian, and my love for and service to God is what comes first in my life. My family comes second, my real life third, and last the adventures of my fictional character. So, if I'm not updating, know it's because one of those first three came in front of the last one!
As a last word:
From Sir Walter Scott’s Marmion
Why then a final note prolong,
Or lengthen out a closing song,
Unless to bid the gentles speed,
Who have long listed to my rede?
To statesman grave, if such may deign
To read the minstrel’s idle strain,
Sound head, clean hand, and piercing wit,
And patriotic heart—as Pitt!
A garland for the hero’s crest,
And twined by her he loves the best!
To every lovely lady bright,
What can I wish but faithful knight?
To every faithful lover too,
What can I wish but lady true?
And knowledge to the studious sage,
And pillow soft to head of age!
To thee, dear school-boy, whom my lay
Has cheated of thy hour of play,
Light task and merry holiday!
To all, to each, a fair good-night,
And pleasing dreams, and slumber light!
(1.)L’Envoy- from old French envoy, literally a message; here a closing word or postscript.
(2.)Marmion- One of Scott’s epics about an imaginary English hero killed at the battle of Flodden in 1513. If you have heard of it, I am impressed. If you have read it, please PM me. You are an incredible, exceedingly rare species and I would love to make your acquaintance!
(3.)Rede- here story.
(4.)Pitt-William Pitt (1759-1806), second son of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, was an eminent statesman and orator. He was for many years Prime Minister of England; and through his influence England entered into the war with France which ended with the fall of Napoleon. If you've read anything of Scott, you can see that he (Scott) idolized him (Pitt)! He was contemporary with the events in the Scarlet Pimpernel, and, according to Orczy, was a dear friend of Blakeney.:)
