There is always something to be learned. Nobody is perfect. As we feel that we are supposed to get wiser, somehow, some way, we feel less so. The vast amounts of knowledge contained in this world cannot be held by any one person and never will be. This applies to the arts. One of those arts is writing.
I will say up front if you have visited this page from a review I have given... I am a very tough critic. You might know that from the difference in my review against the good "pat-on-the-head" reviews you may have. You might have read a story of mine passing through, and just got curious. In any case, I will tell you, I don't really like the single-lined review. It does nothing for my improvement or the better to my writing or life. It might encourage, but it does not help.
Telling a commander that the battle is going well because you do not want to report the fact that the left flank has a gap that the enemy found and is utilizing to win is a sentence of certain doom. I don't just want an honest answer. I want to know everything of every detail. Tell me everything that is wrong or even possibly wrong. I want all the facts you know and all the opinions you have. Every word counts. Hold me to high standards.
And hold yourself to high standards.
As far as I'm concerned, I have failed. I have failed my fans. I have failed my friends, and I have failed my writing passion. I seek my old victories, and I seek new ones. But for now, I am a failure until further notice.
