Author has written 6 stories for Naruto, Harry Potter, and Dragon Quest Series.
Name: RanmaXLR (If you want my real name, feel free to message me. I'm not against talking to people!)
About Me: Well, I'm currently a college student who enjoys reading, gaming, and writing. Basically the typical geek/nerd/whatever else is included. I enjoy reading Harry Potter, Naruto, Ranma, and many other fanfictions on this site— provided they're actually good.
How I write: I use a very minimal writing style, because I don't believe the reader is stupid enough to need all the details. I'm sure describing something in rich detail is nice and all, but I'm also sure they don't really care much about how many patterns they could see on a carpet in a room the character will visit once. I simply describe things the way I perceive them: basic form, color, the feeling I get when I look at it (ex: comfy looking couch), preferring to let the reader fill in the blanks; it makes their brain work! See? I'M HELPING YOU.
What really annoys me:
Harem fictions: I would say that 95% of these are complete garbage, filled with pointless smut scenes and whatever passes for a plot in the writer's mind.
Slash/Yaoi fictions: Again, 95% of these make absolutely no sense; for example, Harry suddenly realizes Draco is his 'mate' and they do the nasty and Harry somehow get pregnant, despite the obvious hurdle of being a male? Yeah... No. And don't use the "magic" excuse! I'm sure the Wizarding World already studied the subject of pregnancy and the sexes, considering they already know how to travel to the past (which incidentally, is physically impossible since time moves solely in one direction). Something most of these mpreg fans never grasp, is that Wizards highly value the natural order.. mpreg is basically fucking with the natural order. So unless you're willing to create an entirely new world with a society of wizards with much different values than the one in canon, then your story is most likely not worth reading.
Book reading fictions: I don't know about you, but I'm tired of seeing "_ read the Harry Potter books" stories. They're just copy pasting off of the books and adding the specified reader's reaction. I've went through some, and it gets old quick. I mean, the books are being read, right? So, you have James and Sirius visibly stressing themselves out over a reading. Tell me something, if you were watching a train wreck on TV, or were reading about it, would you jump around, especially when you ALREADY know this happened a good while back, so you couldn't do anything in the first place? Didn't think so. Same concept applies here.
Use of wrong grammar, punctuation and vocabulary: This includes incorrect spelling, though I will certainly tolerate the more obscure ones since, let's face it, no one's a master of the English language. On the other hand, if you can't tell the difference between definitely and defiantly, or effect and affect, or say would of instead of would've, ..., then you have to familiarize yourself with the language you speak and write with... Really, you do. I do, of course, take into account the different ways different countries spell words (I.E.: Color (USA) and Colour (UK)). As for punctuation, I am getting really annoyed at seeing questions which don't end with question marks! I'll stop this rant before it gains traction. ONTO THE NEXT ONE!
Most (but certainly not all) bashing fictions: A step short of being self-insert, most of these fanfictions treat the bashed characters as greedy, thoughtless, evil, glory hounds, with Harry and his allies continually admonishing them for their bad behavior, as if the phrase 'forgive and forget' doesn't exist, while at the same time exhibiting that exact same behavior which they were admonishing in the first place! Some consistency, if you please!
Rushed fictions: These fictions are cringe inducing, and I would highly recommend that you stop reading as soon as you experience your third cringe. The first and second could be quite forgivable; maybe the author wanted to go to bed and got lazy or something. I certainly rush some of my chapters if I get sick of writing. But then again, I do have a minimal style of writing to begin with, but I'd like to think I progress through the story at a reasonable pace.
Take "Naruto The Fox Sennin", for example; the story's premise had the makings of greatness, but it was completely ruined by the incredibly rushed pace of the story. To understand what I'm talking about better, I shall quote a small passage.
Bear with me now:
"Meanwhile Sasuke and Sakura were wide-eyed when they heard that Naruto was actually masking his emotions which meant that his happiness and goofy attitude was all fake and that their teacher was an ex-anbu. 'Then his crush on me could be fake, wait why am I sad about this can just give me more time to focus on Sasuke-kun' the pink haired banshee thought."
If you cannot see what is wrong with this one passage (that fanfic is FULL of these, I'll tell you now), then you need to re-learn the art of storytelling. I, myself, with my minimal writing, could have made that one paragraph into a few chapters! A person doesn't just jump from one mindset to the next? People don't change so easily and so drastically, that's common sense.
List of stories:
Harry Potter: Journey of the Cursed King
The only Harry Potter / Dragon Quest VIII crossover in FF.Net currently. Feel free to inform me if that changes. This is my crowning jewel. Too bad everyone is more interested in Kamui To The Past to give a crap about this fic. Woe is me! Incidentally also the longest novelization of Dragon Quest VIII.
Fresh Prince of Little Whinging
Basically the Fresh Prince of Bel Air song applied to Harry Potter.
How Harry Killed Voldemort
Ah the simplicity. How DOES Harry kill Voldemort, in this little oneshot of mine? The answer is stupid. You should read anyway!
How Harry Got Past The Age Line
Just a random thought I had when I was reading through a few fanfictions. Every one of us knows the famous spell "Wingardium Leviosa". So I figured, what's to stop it from doing... well anything? So I just wrote this. May write others like it.
Kamui To The Past!
As I've said earlier. This story got a LOT of positive feedback, yet I felt it was extremely subpar. I've stopped updating. Feel free to use it for your own fanfiction, though!
