Hey everyone! Thanks for dropping by. I'm noa748, otherwise known as Brittany. B-)
Well, let me tell you a little bit about myself! I'm 22 years old and I'm from the U.S., currently living in the state of New Hampshire. I waitress/bartend and go to school when I can; though I'm a business major, my real dream is to become a popular novelist. If I can't make it big with my favorite hobby, though, I'd like to do something that makes a difference in the world.
What else? I'm a bit interested in psychology and the different ways people think--more importantly, the way nothing is black and white. The shades of grey fascinate me. I like trying to see things from different perspectives; I think if everyone learned how to walk in each other's shoes, there would be a lot less fighting and a lot more compassion in today's society. /soapbox
About my fanfiction! You'll probably find that my aforementioned interest in psychology and perspectives is reflected in my work on this site. One of the big things I focus on is interpersonal relationships and character building! :D A big thanks to the Tales series for getting me started on that kind of thing. It's a lot of fun to write people and relationships changing over time. I really believe in stories that are character-driven rather than plot-driven.
Also, I'm a self-insert writer. As in, that's pretty much all I ever post. The point of fanfiction for me is to have some enjoyable way to hone my writing skills; I enjoy writing these, so self-inserts it is! Obviously I break away from that when I write original fiction, but this is a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine.
What is a self-insert?
A self-insert fic is a story in which the author bases the main character entirely off of him/herself. Writing these is typically taboo, mainly because many of these stories are horrendously written wish-fulfillment fics where the main character is perfect and every other character falls in love with them. Unfortunately, SI stories are hated by many because of this.
But they don't have to be bad. Why? Because if the author is honest with themselves, the character they create will already be well-rounded and realistic. You're basing this character off of a real person--yourself--so there's no reason why they shouldn't have a good amount of believable strengths and flaws. And if as a writer you understand the characters you're dealing with, you'll also know how they would react to meeting your character, and that not everyone will get along perfectly.
Of course, that's just my two cents. Whether or not my personal SIs are any good is for you to judge. And if anyone knows of any good SIs that aren't on my favorites list, feel free to show me, because I love reading them about as much as I love writing them :D
Anyway, that's about all I have to say!

New Reality is the oldest of my stories, the most popular, and the one I focus my attention on 90% of the time. Witness OC Brit's initial debut, in the world of Tales of Symphonia! My first attempt at a realistic portrayal of a self-insertion, started when I was sixteen. Currently attempting to revise/rewrite the earliest chapters. Rest assured that the writing quality gets much better as the story goes on.
Status: about 2500 words done for the next chapter.
Into the Nightmare is a plot bunny that randomly popped up one day and started harrassing me. Into the Nightmare takes place during Silent Hill 2. It's a self insert (but it doesn't have anything to do with New Reality). Anyway! I wanted to do a story that has to do with one of my worst fears: actually ending up in the town. Obviously it's an irrational fear, but what SH fan hasn't had some sort of nightmare about that happening?
The Path to Paradise is the sequel to Into the Nightmare. It takes place in Silent Hill 3, three years after the events in the first story. Still working some important plot points out in my head, so it might be a bit before I start updating this one regularly.
Status: Attempting chapter 4, heh...about 700 words down so far.
Far From Home is my shot at a realistic Pokemon fic. My goal is for the story to have a deep plot and some sufficiently dark moments, but at the same time retaining some of the fun, lighthearted spirit of the games. In which Team Rocket is a legitimate criminal organization and Pokemon do more than just faint.
Status: Chapter 9 is about halfway finished.
Sympathy for the Devil is...plot bunny #323543049. My mistake for uploading something before I really even had anything in mind beyond the first chapter. XD As much as I like the idea, I can't keep on with it.
Status: DEAD. This fic has been dying slowly and painfully anyway (c'mon, I post like one chapter a year) and there's no way I can keep motivating myself to write it. Whatever plot I had in mind is long gone. SORRY GUYS. ;_; On the bright side...I'll post a different FFVII self-insert that I've gotten significantly further in! I hope that makes you feel better. XD
Operation: Avert Crisis is an unofficial sequel to NR - meaning, it's not "canon" as far as NR goes. The official sequel (if I decide to write it, in the distant future after I finish NR) will be a crossover with another Tales game (which one? HA, that's a secret!). Anyway, this is a story revolving around OC Brit attempting to save the life of Zack Fair - and, of course, she's going to bite off way more than she can chew. But that's the fun of it!
Status: chapter 13 and 14 have been posted!
Strong Hearts is yeeet another unofficial NR sequel, because obviously I don't have enough of them. This one takes place in Tales of Xillia, and is done very much in the style of ToX - there are two sides to the story, two main characters. One side follows OC Brit as she attempts to locate the source of a breach in the dimensional walls between Aselia, Earth, and Rieze Maxia in order to protect the worlds and secure a way back to her old friends. Another side follows Mithos, who survived the final battle and is now trying to piece his life together in an unfamiliar world. Their two paths will inevitably converge, and OC Brit will shit an entire brick.
Status: about 850 words down for the new chapter. I know, I'm terrible.
