Who am I? I’m currently working towards my certification in Medical Coding and Billing after being laid off from my job in College Publishing. I have a BA in Film Studies and a MA in Media Studies. I sing, play piano and guitar, read a ridiculous amount of fanfiction in my spare time along with regular books. FANDOMS Harry Potter House MCU and DC Universe Sherlock (Sherlock and John pairing) Star Trek There’s others that I lightly read DISLIKES and LIKES (in no particular order) Pairings (this is for HP only) Harry/Ginny, so wrong I can’t believe it; an obsessive fan girl who is barely in the books (almost absent in the movies). Ginny cannot talk to Harry and only knows him from the ridiculous books published (without his knowledge) about him, never bothers to really get to know the real person. Forever thinks of him as her hero after COS, tries to gain Harry's attention in fourth year but to no effect, and then moves on to date other guys to try making him jealous. Harry, never ever thought of Ginny as anything else but Ron's little sister, but then he suddenly gets jealous of Ginny dating other guys. I refuse to believe it, more like Amortentia or something was involved, after all, Ginny did show an interest in love potions and everything. I don’t want to hear about that 'she looks like his mother' tripe. It's ridiculous, and smacks of an Oedipal complex, which doesn’t go with the books. Nor do I want to hear about them being the next coming of James and Lily; that is just sick, as well as shortchanges both Harry and Ginny, and considering I can’t stand Ginny, that says something about my dislike of this trope. I will include Ron as a pairing that revolts me as well. I do enjoy: Harry/Draco Harry/Daphne Harry/Hermione (only if this character moves past her book problems of being an unrequited know-it-all, and pain in the rear) Harry/Luna Harry/Neville Harry/Fleur and/or Gabrielle Harry/Theo or Blaise Harry/original character but make them interesting and intelligent, no Mary Sue’s need apply. That means no putting yourself, the writer in the story. I will not endure Harry with any of these people: James, Sirius, Lily, Remus, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Fenrir, or any of the main kid characters mothers (no Oedipus junk) and definitely not Gilderoy. Move on folks!!! SLASH. I totally enjoy it and avidly search it out, the reason I started reading fanfics was because of Kirk/Spock stories. BASHING. That is something I love, especially Dumbledore and sorry folks Captain America (particularly after Civil War, since I cannot stand the Scarlet Witch. Team Iron Man all the way). However, be wary of these characters becoming a cartoon villain. HAREMS. There is a limit to anything, I’m willing to read a trio or a foursome but above that the stories becomes boring, idiotic and trite. It takes a really great writer for me to put up with that tripe. This includes stories where there is way too many crossover characters and/or the main character, who I like is portrayed as a slut. Thus, I will only put up with three at the most crossover universes. Stories with a 2-dimensional approach or zero development of characters. Ugh, no one folks stays the same over a seven year period . This is why I despise canon HP, it’s the one fandom I read that suffers with this problem. Gryffindors are good, Slytherins are evil. Ridiculous! While JKR does a good job throughout the series, I cannot get past this limited version of what the universe could be if the characters actually moved past the petty, stilted B/W picture in which they were drawn. The story is too overly plain and moral for my tastes. It's either Dumbledore and his light side manipulating Harry's life, or Voldemort and his obsession with killing Harry. No other agendas, no sub-plots. Nothing. I’ll move on because I could discuss this forever. I’ll also state flatly that between Loki and Thor, I will always side with Loki. Wimpy Remus, Remus is Dumbledore’s bitch, etc. How did he become a marauder if he’s this pathetic!! Don’t remind me how he tried to ditch Dora and Teddy. Why can’t we see more of Dora’s family? Why is she cast as the comic relief. Oops, there I go again. Let’s move on. Slytherin! Harry, Intelligent! Harry, Powerful! Harry : It is an outrage that the Boy-who-lived, canonically is almost a wimp. JKR is a fine writer to a certain extent but failed Harry after the initial setup of the books. Harry is supposedly The Dark Lord’s equal!!?? He fought off a hundred Dementors using a single Patronus, manages to lock Voldemort in a power struggle and can fight off the possession and Imperius. It makes no sense for him to continually revert back to being a mealy mouth, moron just because it’s easier than to move the character forward in its development. There is no reason why Harry cannot show intelligence, passion and ability once he arrives at Hogwarts. I don’t care that JKR wanted to pander to Hermione and Ronald, at some point Harry should have told those two to either deal with who he really is or he was dumping them. |
