One Challenge and a Castle Full of Witches Info (SYOC CLOSED)

World Building: Royal families have an heir, but each sibling can get one chance to challenge their sibling to the throne. Most siblings wait until after their sibling has ruled for a while, then challenge. It’s odd to challenge so young, but this pair of brothers is different.

Province Issues:

Clermont: A sudden emergence of a giant dark magic cult has led to issues about safety, and children learning to stay away from dark magic at all costs.

Honduragua: A lot of voodoo there, the main dark magic path

Waverly: Most often has a lot of healing magic users (where Iris is from)

Kent/Midston: Kent and Midston’s governors are arguing, and tensions are rising among the people as a result. Other provinces are wary a fight might break out.

Magic Branches:

Light Magic- The most common type. Born with it, and taught in schools. Spells, potions, and crystals, dream catchers, palm reading. Healing, Protecting, Cleaning, Cooking, Fighting (to an extent), Control of Animals (excluding black cats, crows, and other animals of death), Nature, Light, Love, Invisibility. Some examples of what their magic allows, although many don’t have all of these abilities, and don’t necessarily use them all the time, since they were born with light magic, and may only use it sometimes, although some get jobs relying on their magic. It is extremely rare to be able to perform magic without a wand, the royal family is the only known family to be able to do this, with special training and large resources. Festival is held in the spring, March 1st, to celebrate new life, and light magic.

Dark Magic- Less common, but still more than non-magic people. Not taught in schools- except that it’s dangerous. Curses, Potions/Poisons, Bones, Cauldrons, Rituals, Voodoo, Tarot Cards are thought to be evil, Crystal Balls, Talking with the Dead. Fighting, Malicious Intent, Torture, Control Animals of death and darkness, Darkness, Death, Dark, Smoke. Often thought people with this magic sell their soul to the devil, but more often it’s just that they found the right resources and private teachers, or joined cults. These are examples of what some people do with their magic, but can’t or don’t control all of the above. Dark Magic users are often more willing to use their magic as they’ve ‘worked hard’ for it. It is very rare to perform this magic without a wand, only very strong cult leaders have perfected a few spells without wands through immense training daily. Different holidays, but the most popular for rituals is October 31st, an age old tradition of summoning the dark and demonic, or even just to talk to the dead for a bit. Often have some sort of tattoo or scar if they are in a cult.

Non-Magics- Actually pretty rare, but it occurs. Not born with magic, and often can’t learn it (some famous exceptions). Often looked down upon by society, and given poor jobs and education, though tutors can be found for a good education if your family is rich enough.

Technology: Technology is as modern as today, but most people choose not to be too involved with it since magic is more convenient. Most people might live in small houses with minimal technology. Phones, cars, etc still exist, but may not be widespread in the country, and more popular in the city.
