Author has written 4 stories for Fire Emblem, Street Fighter, and Etrian Odyssey/世界樹の迷宮.
Been awhile since I edited this, so it's time for a profile makeover.
For my own reference here: Last Updated - March, 2011
New Years Resolution Status: So my New Years Resolution for 2010 was to get a new chapter of fanfic up every month. Sounds easy, right? Well take a look at how long I've gone without updating S&S sometimes and you'll see that it's not so much for me. So here's my status updates for this!
2010: January: S&S(Matthew: Shadow's Ruse), Febuary: S&S(Guy: Masterless Sword), March: S&S(Guy: Masterless Sword 2), April: F&F(Sage Advice), May: S&S(Matthew: Shadow Savior), June: S&S(Guy: Sword's Purpose), July: F&F(Fun in the Sun), August: SoHK(A New Challenger!), September: SoHK(Qiao Ran vs. Shiro Asakura), October: TotEG(Recognition), November: S&S(Matthew: Shadow's Lies), December: SoHK(Hitting the Town)
2011 status: Failure to post chapter every month. Failure to complete S&S by end of year.
Alright folks, I've come up against a tight spot. I can either push as hard as I can, rush things, and probably burn myself out on writing period to get S&S done and up...or I can take a short break from writing it, plot out the remaining chapters more carefully, and write the ending it deserves. Obviously the second option is the only real one. So I've taken Sept and Oct off, going to get a chapter(maybe one for School of Hard Knocks as well) up in Nov, and continue from there.
Basic Info on the Subject of Me
Name: Alan. Gatewalker will do though, or DarkwindStriker, or just DWS. Just never call me Al. Never. I mean it.
Bio: Human Male, age 27 from all over the continental USA. Currently residing in a thankfully non-sunny part of California.
Personality: Chronic underachiever who can somehow manage to be both a charming fellow and an irritating ass at the same time. Believe me, it runs in the family.
Interests: Mainly games, RPGs to be specific. Be it computer adventure "RPGs" such as Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem or other various titles, or real, paper and pencil RPGs like good ol' D&D or Mutants and Masterminds, games are basically my life. Well, games and my wife. Good thing she's a gamer too, huh?
Largely I've moved away from simply playing games and more towards getting into the mechanics and creating. Not for video games, though. Sadly I lack any programming talent. But game design theory has become a huge hobby of mine with pnp games. D&D 3.5 especially I can make sing, dance, and do just about anything else I want. Haven't really gotten into making a system of my own yet, but I may one of these days.
Stories I am currently working on:
"Sword and Shadow"-a Fire Emblem 7 fanfic that follows the paths of my two favorite FE characters ever, Guy and Matthew, after the victory over Nergal. Just in case anybody's interested, I based the pairings and friendships heavily off of my supports from my last playthrough, which had Grant as the tactician. During the entire playthrough, I was giving my tactician a personality, imagining conversations, and generally making up this story before I even knew I was going to write it. Weird, huh?
"Fate and Fortune"- a Fire Emblem 10 fanfic starring everyone's(or at least my) favorite hot rogue, Heather as she goes searching for an adventure all of her own to have. Mostly serious, but sticks very loosely to canon. Original characters will be introduced and will play a major part in the story, but the central character will remain Heather the whole time.
"School of Hard Knocks" - Street Fighter fanfic set in the future, staring a nearly 40 Sakura as she tries to train a batch of misfits and weirdos to be the next great Street Fighters. Hey, she was hardly a normal girl herself, so she should be able to handle it...right? Bios for the older Sakura as well as the students(all original characters of course) will go up on my LiveJournal at some point.
"Tales of the Ellight Guild" - Based loosely on the team I used though Etrian Oddysey 1, the Ellight Guild are the adventurers who conquered the labyrinth and solved it's mysteries. But rather then tell thier story start to finish, this is a collection of self contained chapters that each cover a single defining moment of the guild's journey. Chonological order has no place here, as the very first chapter is about the end of thier adventure! Hopefully it doesn't get confusing and is enjoyable all the same.
Why I write: Largely as a challenge to myself, and to get out ideas that I'll never be able to fit into the RPs I run. It's really that simple.
How I write: Okay, my writing style has changed a bit over time. Descriptions are harder and harder for me, and dialogue becomes easier. Recently made a very important realization that made everything click: I don't think like a prose writer. I think like a script writer. But here I am trying to write prose anyway. So if my style seems really choppy, with not enough description and too much focus on conversation and very basic actions, you know why.
