Author has written 14 stories for Harry Potter.
Update 25th October
As 2014 hurtles towards its preordained conclusion, I am finding myself busier and busier. This inevitably has an effect on the amount of time I have available to write fan fiction, though the next two or three chapters will be posted on successive Sundays as per my usual schedule. After that however, the interval between chapters might stretch past the weekly mark I set myself.
Highlight of the week \ month \ all the years I've been writing fan fiction was Old Crow posting a new story - and accrediting me as being the reason he did so.
'Finally, I'd point out that this story is here because of my friend and fellow scribe, Robst. After finishing his fantastic tale, Harry Crow, I promised myself that if he started posting another story, I would too.' Scott, you have been well and truly missed - and 'Dan Granger' seems like another cracker from my favourite author.
I saw the following quote accredited to Professor Brian Cox and thought it applied perfectly to fan fiction too.
"The problem with today's word is that everyone believes they have the right to express their opinion AND have others listen to it.
The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly if it is demonstratively nonsense."
I shall try and remember this the next time I receive a foul and abusive message telling me that a certain fictional character would never act the way I just wrote them, therefore I must be insane, stupid, shot at dawn, etc. etc. etc...
Update 7th November
The next few chapters should point the direction the ship for 'anger' will be sailing...
'Takin' the Piss'
I took this story down for two reasons. The first one being I thought I was finished posting on the net and didn't want to leave an incomplete story just sitting there. The second reason should have been foreseen by me. My original intention with this was just to 'touch-up' KiP, fixing grammar issues and smoothing out certain parts that jarred in the story. The trouble is that the author who wrote Harry Crow is practically a different person to the RobSt who penned Knowledge is Power six years ago. I found myself rewriting more and more of each chapter as the story progressed, and this rewriting was taking me nearly as much time as it does to write an original chapter.
The project is not dead and buried, just shelved until I run out of ideas for new stories - so hopefully it won't be making a reappearance for a long while yet!
Just to clarify something else - I don't post my stories on any other sites but here. I can't post them as ebooks or in pdf format, though there are various software options available for downloading stories from this site in all of those formats.
ps, after receiving an abusive review, I posted Professor Brian Cox's quote back to them - silence...
Update 10th November
I have had readers letting me know they don't like the direction this story is taking, and some have gone as far as to say they will be stopping reading it. As I have myself stopped reading many a story for the exact same reasons, this is something I can sympathise and wholeheartedly agree with.
At the same time, and in almost matching numbers, I've had readers contacting me to say they love the way 'anger' is turning out.
To me this just proves the old adage 'you can't please all the people'. As an author I selfishly believe the most important person my writing should please is me. I'm the one writing the story and if I don't like it, then it doesn't really matter to me who else does.
For those stopping reading, thanks for sticking with it this far and hope you'll be back for my next story. All of you planning on staying the distance - strap yourselves in because it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
Update 16th November
Yes, happy to take the flack for that cliffy. What I would like to say in my defence, it could have been so much worse. The chapter would needed to have been about 10,000 words long to avoid a worse one - hence why I stopped it there.
Was wondering what caused the uproar until someone pointed it out to me.
Here was how I arrived at the names:
Gary Leonard Oldman plays Sirius Black brilliantly, and has a son called Alfie.
Gary Newman - Remus, Leonard Newman - Sirius, Alfie Newman - Harry.
We don't get Mad magazine in Scotland - so any reference to characters from this publication is purely coincidental, and certainly not part of this story.
Update - 24th January 2015
It's always nice but still rather sad to write 'The End' as the final two words to your story. I would like to thank everyone who offered me encouragement to continue doing what I enjoy, writing Harry Potter fanfiction.
I know 'Anger' wasn't everyone's cup of tea, mainly due to the pairings. This is something I can certainly understand, I find it very difficult to read stories where Hermione ends up with anyone other than Harry.
The good news for those readers is my next story will be pure Harry/Hermione. It's provisionally called 'You're my Density!' - that should give those who figure out the movie reference a big clue to what the story is about.
The bad news - I haven't written one word of it yet. I am also unbelievably busy at work, having to do overtime for the first time in many years. This is seriously cutting into any spare time that I would normally use to write.
Will give progress reports here over the coming weeks, though it might even be Easter before I can get enough of a break to start typing my ideas out.
Update 27th January
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to let me know they enjoyed reading 'Don't look back in Anger'. I was trying something a bit different and was delighted with the response to this story. I did get a chuckle at those who claimed it was short, though after 'Harry Crow' I guess I could see their point.
At 140K words, it is just slightly shorter than my first story - Kiss. Considering that's 30 chapters long, with disclaimers and author notes too, it just emphasises how much my writing style has changed - and that my chapters have gradually grown in size...
Update 9th Febuary
Had a chest infection that laid me low. I could still write with my trusty iPad though - hence my new story posted earlier than expected. As always, I try to be different and will be exploring a few things in this one I haven't tried before. As is also usual with my writing, I have no idea where this story is going or even a vague idea how long it will be. Ther are no pages of notes or plans of what will happen when, the entire thing usualy just organically evolves as we go. Hope you stick around to find out where this journey leads.
