Author has written 6 stories for Sherlock Holmes, and Labyrinth.
Name: Scarlette Quill
Residence: the Southern United States, but if you ever fell like you're being watched, it's probably her.
Most important part of Scarlette's life: Her relationship with God.
Interests: Scarlette is an artist, musician, writer, director, and member of two choirs. One dances and one sings madrigals. Scarlette is also a crusader for decent writing and a viscious editor. She prowls the site with her red pen, seeking to rid the world of bad fanfiction, but Scarlaette is physically incapable of flaming. She provides only constructive critism.
Favorite fandoms: Ms. Quill has many favorite fandoms, most having strange people like Gaiman, Burton, and Depp as a focal point. She is also one of the few known fangirls of the Hillywood show. (www.thehillywoodshow.com if you're interested.) The fandoms she will write mainly here will be Sherlock Holmes and POTC.
How I view fanfiction (or a dissertation on the impossible):
I think that you must be good to have people love your own creations, and therefore you must be great to take what someone else has made popular and make people love your interpretations. I feel the same way about impressions. It is my belief that if people aren't willing to put in the extra work and submit to the higher standards of respectful imitation, they have no business putting their work up for viewing and criticism. I am perfectly open to new concepts and characters, but you have to MAKE me believe it. Flat characters have no place in literature, and why lower standards. As long as the character and style of the original inspiration remains, though, I will give it a chance.
I do have a small problem with laziness in characterization. Characters like Sherlock Holmes and Jack Sparrow are loved for being unique and different. They are not going to do conventional, cliche' things or say trite, overused dialogue. If you want to alter their lives drastically, you have to put in the time and effort of a pshycological evolution to go with the outside change. Jack is not going to scuttle the Pearl and start growing potatoes, Holmes will never become a vampire superhero. However, if someone wants them to, they better have a GOOD REASON and a BETTER STORY to go with such blasphemy.
